Volkanovski backs Evloev despite brutal defeat

The UFC champion believes Movsar Evloev will return stronger and dominate the rest of the featherweight division.

Alexander Volkanovski thinks Movsar Evloev is capable of great things despite his recent loss, and believes he'll come back stronger after the defeat.

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski handed Movsar Evloev his first career loss on Saturday night, securing a very important victory for his legacy.

On the other hand, it was a bitter defeat for Movsar Evloev, as he had worked his way up the rankings so well and so quickly, and seemed ready to truly challenge for the UFC title. At the last moment, he was stopped, and in a rather brutal way. Movsar Evloev has faced heavy criticism following the fight, as some claim he tapped out too early, or even that he apparently didn’t really try. The winner of the bout, Alexander Volkanovski, sees it a little differently, though. On his YouTube channel, he said:

“A big part of his game plan was going to be to fire off the break as well, knowing that I’d get up so again; that game plan was perfect. I thought he would be a little more aggressive on the feet once he knew he couldn’t get the takedown as well… I thought Movsar did a much better job; I thought he still looked great as well. Again, I’m just the wrong guy. This is going to be hard for people to understand or believe; if that Movsar fought anyone else in the division, he walks through them. It’s just, I’m a different guy. I believe that was the best Movsar that there was, people probably won’t get that but I believe that, it’s just I’m a nightmare matchup for him. Watch his next fight, and watch, it will be his best performance to date, remember I said that”

he said.

In doing so, he’s showing his opponent a great deal of respect, even though he could have easily added more fuel to the fire. That deserves huge respect. Whether Movsar Evloev will actually win the UFC title again in the future is anyone’s guess. What do you guys think?
