Volkanovski predicts best performance against Evloev

The featherweight champion doubts Evloev can outgrapple him over five rounds.

Alexander Volkanovski seems incredibly confident ahead of his upcoming bout against the undefeated Movsar Evloev.

The two are set to face off in 5 days, and a massive showdown is expected. While many are currently focused on the undefeated Movsar Evloev, Alexander Volkanovski is brimming with confidence. He’s convinced that he’ll deliver his best performance that night. This is mainly because he doubts that Movsar Evloev can control him on the ground for five rounds. In his opinion, Movsar Evloev would have to land a match-deciding strike to even stand a chance of winning the fight.

“Trying to outgrapple me for 25 minutes, I can’t see it. I believe that the only chance that any of these guys have is for them to catch me… If he thinks he can beat me by decision or he thinks he can outgrapple me, I’m sure he’s gonna try, we’ll see. I’m just very confident in my skills and the fighter I still am… I think I can do it in pretty wild fashion. I believe I can get a finish. I believe I can do it inside five… A lot of people are going to go say after this fight, ‘Is that the best Volk we've ever seen?’”

Alexander Volkanovski won the title for the first time in 2019 and went on to defend it five times before losing it to Ilia Topuria. When Topuria moved down to lightweight, Alexander Volkanovski quickly reclaimed the title in a bout against Diego Lopes. So he’s been in the title race for a long time and has a lot to lose. We’ll see what really happens in the fight, but it could definitely get pretty exciting.
