Wardley-Dubois rematch on hold as timeline remains uncertain
Wardley has resumed training, but both camps disagree on when the heavyweight rematch should take place

Fabio Wardley has resumed training, but a rematch against Daniel Dubois seems to be on hold for now.
Fabio Wardley most recently defended his title against Daniel Dubois, a fight in which he took a lot of damage and ultimately lost. He suffered several injuries that took a long time to heal, but during that time, when he couldn’t train anyway, he decided to invoke the rematch clause. Originally, it was expected that this very fight could take place as early as 2026 so that Daniel Dubois wouldn’t go too long without a fight, but that might not be the case after all.
Fabio Wardley’s manager emphasized that the fight might have to wait a little longer, despite his boxer’s improved physical condition.
"The clause is in favour of Fabio. So there's no rush. I've heard people say it's going to happen within three months. It's not going to happen within three months. It happens when Fabio's ready."
he said.
However, Daniel Dubois doesn't seem willing to wait that long. In an interview with talkSPORT, Daniel Dubois mentioned that he definitely wants to fight again in 2026.
It’s still unclear whether Daniel Dubois will fight again and defend his title in the absence of Fabio Wardley, but Fabio Wardley’s plans would change significantly if Daniel Dubois were to lose.
Fabio Wardley, however, seems very much looking forward to the fight.
"I've spoken to Fabio. Fabio's excited to be in such a fight again, knows the mistakes that he made, and wants to get it back in blood."
said his manager. The important thing is that, according to Daniel Dubois, Fabio Wardley might think he is ready to fight again, even though it is actually too soon. If he is that excited, he could quickly make wrong decisions at the expense of his physical condition. No matter what Daniel Dubois decides, Fabio Wardley should first do everything he can to get fit, even if a potential title fight is on the horizon.
I hope Fabio Wardley’s team takes good care of him. When you’re hungry for something, it’s often hard to judge for yourself whether you’re even capable of doing it right now. I’d actually love to see the two of them face off again, but health always comes first for now. I’m really curious to see if and when we can look forward to a rematch.
